Fatima-tuz-Zahra – Titles, Marvels and relation with Faqr
جس کا آنچل نہ دیکھا مہ و ماہ نے
اس ردائے نزاہت پہ لاکھوں سلام

Explanation: The one who has veiled herself completely that even the moon and the stars have not seen
her. Moreover, she has completely submitted herself before Allah and is such pure woman
Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra is the one who has the most exalted status in the universe; furthermore
everything in the universe feels pride for her. She is the youngest and most adorable princess of Prophet
Mohammad (pbuh) and his beloved wife Khadija-tul-Kubra (ra). She was born 5 years before the
declaration of prophet hood when the Holy Prophet (pbuh) was busy in contemplation in the cave of
Hira. During these days the Quraysh were busy building the Holy Kaaba afresh. Her name was Fatima
and teknonyms were “Umm-ul-Aima, Umm-ul-Hussain, and Umm-ul-Sibtain”.
Fatima name meaning:
The Holy Prophet named his beloved daughter “Fatima” because Allah has protected her and her
followers from the flames of Hell.
It is narrated from Anas-ibn-Malik (ra) in Al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) said:
“I have named my daughter Fatima because Allah has saved her and her devotees from hellfire.”
Fatima is from Fatm which means “to stop” and “to renounce”.
Hence the meaning of Fatima is “the
renouncer” and “the abandoner from Hellfire.” (Khasais-e-Ahl-Bait)
Furthermore, Jabir Bin Abdullah (ra) says:
The Holy Prophet says that I named my daughter Fatima because Allah has saved her and her devotees
from hellfire. (Imam Dailami) (Manaqib-Syedna Qainat)
The chief of the women of the world, the beloved of the Holy Prophet, Fatima-bint-Mohammad has
many titles, some of which are mentioned below:
Titles of Fatima-tuz-Zahra (ra)
Zahra
Zahra name meaning is petal, bright and beautiful. Fatima-tuz-Zahra was very much similar to the Holy
Prophet to his outer and inner beauty. She was as beautiful as the full moon. Therefore one of her title is
Zahra.
Batool:
One title of Fatima-bint-Mohammad is Batool. The meaning of name Batool is “to distinguish”. She was
different from every woman in terms of virtues, purity and lineage. Therefore her another title is Batool.
Radia:
She has the title of Radia also, because she submitted perfectly to Allah and His Prophet. Thus her one
title is Radia.
Sayyidat Nisa al-Janna:
Furthermore Fatima-tuz-Zahra was given the title of Sayyidat Nisa al-Janna. She possessed this title
because she is the leader of the women of Heaven.
Zakia:
She possessed the most exalted moral virtues and habits therefore she possessed this title.
Tahira:
In addition to all these she has the title of Tahira too because she was completely pure.
Mutahira:
She has also been given the title of Mutahira because she was a pure woman and purified other women too.
Sayyidat-Nisa-al-Alamin:
As she was the leader of women of all the realms so she possessed this title. (Seerat Sayyidat –Nisa-al-
Alamin Sayyida Fatima-tuz-Zahra).
The marvels of Fatima-tuz-Zahra
Aisha bint Abi Bakr (ra)
relates a tradition that the Holy Prophet said on his deathbed to Fatima-bint-
Mohammad, “Are you not pleased that you are the leader of all the Muslim women in heaven, the
women of my umma and all the believing women!” (Mustadrak 4740)
Abu Hurayra (ra) narrates that Holy Prophet (pbuh) said that
“An angel who had never descended on
earth, sought permission from Allah to come to greet me and give the good news that Fatima-tuz-Zahra
is the leader of all the women of paradise. (Bukhari- Tibrani)
Aisha bint Abi Bakar (ra) says, “I have never seen any person so similar to the Holy Prophet in manners,
personality, habits and etiquettes as Fatima-bint-Mohammad.”
Aisha bint Abi Bakar (ra) relates another tradition that I have found no one superior to Fatima-bint-
Mohammad after the Prophet.”
Miswar ibn Makhrama (ra) relates a tradition that the Holy Prophet said, “Fatima-tuz-Zahra is a part of
my body. Whoever displeases her, displeases me.” (Bukhari 3729)
Abdullah ibn Abbas (ra) relates that once the Prophet drew four lines on the ground and asked his
companions, “Do you know what these are?” They replied, “Allah and His Prophet know better.” The
Prophet replied, “The most elevated among the women of heaven are, Khadija bint Khuwaylid, Fatima-
bint-Mohammad, wife of Pharaoh Asiya bint Muzahim and Mariyam bint Imran.” (Masnad Ahmad ibn
Hanbal 2668)
Allama Iqbal says on this account:
مریمؓ از یك نسبت عیسیؑ عزیز
از سہ نسبت حضرت زہراؓ عزیز
Explanation: Mary is exalted because of one relation that she is the mother of Jesus. While Fatima-tuz-
Zahra is exalted because of three relations i.e she is the daughter of the Holy Prophet (pbuh), the wife of
Ali ibn Abi Talib (ra), the mother of Hasan (ra) and Husayn (ra).
The Holy Prophet loved Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra to such an extent that whenever he set off on a journey he used to meet Fatima-tuz-Zahra at the very last and when he returned from the journey he used to meet her first.
Abdullah ibn Umar (ra) relates, “Whenever the Holy Prophet set out on a journey, the last person he
met was Fatima-tuz-Zahra. On returning the first person he visited was also Fatima-tuz-Zahra.”
Aisha bint Abi Bakar (ra) says, “Whenever Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra came to meet the Holy Prophet, he
would stand to welcome her, kiss her hand and made her sit on his seat. When the Holy Prophet visited
Fatima-tuz-Zahra (ra), she also stood to welcome him, kissed his sacred hand and made him sit at her
place.” (Abu Dawud 5271)
Fatima-tuz-Zahra and Faqr
Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra is the first Sultan-ul-Faqr. One can achieve the vision and closeness of Allah only
by her medium. She reached the level of Divine love to such an extent that the Holy Prophet (pbuh)
chose her for the Divine trust.
Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra asked the Holy Prophet (pbuh) “Will I be raised alone on the doomsday?” He
replied, “O beloved daughter! The spiritual education of women will commence from you now and all
the women of my umma who join your spiritual chain will be raised with you on the doomsday. Allah
has honored you with this status since pre-existence. Soon you will be made the custodian of the heritage of
Faqr. Then you will have to transfer it to Hasan ibn Ali (ra).”
The transference of Faqr to Fatima-tuz-Zahra
One month after this, Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) transferred the treasure of Faqr to Fatima-tuz-Zahra
(ra) by the grace of Allah in the Islamic month of Safar, 11 th AH. Afterwards he said to her, “If anyone
belonging to your spiritual chain will recite salawat (blessings and salutations upon the Holy Prophet)
with your permission, he (or she) will have the privilege of seeing me.” Then he covered Fatima-bint-
Mohammad’s head with green shawl after rubbing it with his own sacred body and said, “Bless you O
daughter! Today Allah has made you the custodian of Faqr.” The king of Yemen had gifted him this
shawl. (Tawarikh Aina-e-Tasawwuf)
Sultan Bahoo (ra) says:
Fatima-bint-Mohammad was brought up in Faqr, nourished by Faqr and held Faqr. Whoever attains
Faqr, it is only through her mediation. (Jamay-ul-Asrar)
The perfection in ‘Faqr is my pride’ was possessed by the sacred brothers Hasan (ra) and Husayn (ra)
who are the beloveds of the Holy Prophet and Fatima-tuz-Zahra (ra). (Mehak-ul-Faqr Kalan)
Every entity who possessed Faqr from the Holy Prophet (pbuh) became engrossed in the oneness of the
Holy Prophet and became the exact reflection of the Holy Prophet, thus became one with Allah.
Hadith about Fatima-tuz-Zahra (ra)
When Fatima-tuz-Zahra (ra) received the Trust of Faqr from the Holy Prophet, he said about Fatima-bint-
Mohammad, “Fatima-bint-Mohammad is from me”.
Along with the esoteric life, the exoteric life of Fatima-tuz-Zahra was very pure and grand. She is one of
those respectful and noble entities who are given the title of Sultan-ul-Faqr. This title is the most
distinguished title among the friends of Allah. Their step is on the head of all the friends of Allah, al-
Ghawth and al-Qutb. These entities are seven. Unless all seven entities descend on earth, the doomsday
will not occur.
Sultan Bahoo was the first person who disclosed this secret.
Sultan Bahoo says about these entities (including Fatima-tuz-Zahra) in Risala Roohi Sharif:
“Know! When the Divine light of Ahad (the One), coming out of His isolated Oneness, intended to
manifest Himself in multiplicity, He graced (all the worlds) with the splendid disclosure of His pure Divine
beauty.
Afterwards, both the realms started burning like a moth on the candle of His blazing beauty.
Then the light of Ahad (احد) concealed in the veil of M (م) of Ahmad (احمد) and manifested Himself as
Ahmad. He then shook Himself seven times due to the abundance of Divine passion and will, with which
seven purified souls of Fakirs annihilated in Allah, immortal with Him,
absorbed in the contemplation of the Essence,
all core without any flesh or body, drowned in the unfathomed ocean of the
Divine beauty appeared on the eternal tree of pure transparent belief seventy
thousand years before the birth of Adam
About the seven souls
Neither did they see anything except the Divine Essence since pre-existence till eternity nor did they
hear anyone other than Allah. They ever remained such an ocean of union in the Divine sanctuary which
has no decline.
At times they endeavour for sanctity and transcendence with their body of light. At times they are a
drop in the ocean and at times the ocean in a drop. They are blessed with the cover of beneficence of
“When Faqr is accomplished that is Allah.” Hence, they have got an eternal life and are honoured and
exalted with the crown of “Faqr demands nothing from Allah or anyone other than Allah.” Neither are
they aware of the birth of Prophet Adam nor about the occurrence of the doomsday. They have their
steps on the heads of all the Saints, al-Ghawth and al-Qutb. If we call them god, it is absolutely correct
and if we call them men of God, it is fine as well. This secret is known only to those who recognize them.
Their station is Divine sanctuary of the Magnificent. They never requested for anything from Allah
except Allah Himself.
They never paid any heed towards the petty world or the blessings of hereafter i.e. the houris and
castles of heaven. The sole theophany that made Prophet Moses perplexed and Mount Sinai crushed
into pieces, the same theophany of passion and lights of the Essence descend upon them seventy
thousand times every moment yet they do not object or lament. Rather they utter, “Is there any more?”
They are the Sultan-ul-Faqr (Sultan of Faqr) and the lord of all the worlds.
Names of the seven Sultan-ul-Faqr souls (including Fatima-tuz-Zahra):
One of them is the sacred soul of the queen of doomsday (Syeda Fatima-bint-Mohammad). Second
among them is the sacred soul of Hasan of Basra (ra). The third soul is our spiritual guide, the reality of
Truth, the absolute light, the exact manifestation of Truth, the beloved of Allah, Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani
(ra). Fourth is the soul of Sultan of Divine light and secret of the Eternal Essence, Shaikh Sayyid Abdul
Razzaq Jilani (ra) son of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra). The fifth soul is the eye of Hoo (ھُوْ), the secret of
secrets of the Divine Essence, annihilated in Hoo (ھُو) Fakir Bahoo (ra). Two among them are the souls of
other Mystics.”
Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra’s esoteric life
Just like Syeda Fatima-tuz-Zahra never returned any beggar empty handed in her physical life, she never
returns any beggar empty handed in her spiritual life too. Anyone who asks for Faqr, never returns
broken hearted. In the present era Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is the
medium for reaching the sacred court of Fatima-bint-Mohammad.
Fatima-tuz-Zahra was also a dignified worshiper along with generosity and Faqr.
Hasan ibn Ali (ra) says, “I saw my sacred mother worshipping day and night. She wept for Allah absorbed
in His love but never asked anything for her.”
Ali ibn Abi Talib (ra) once said, “I often see that Fatima-tuz-Zahra (ra) is cooking food and invoking Allah’s
Name as well, grinding millstone and reciting the verses of Holy Quran also.”

How Fatima-tuz-Zahra died?
Fatima-tul-Zahra loved the Holy Prophet very much. The separation from the Holy Prophet grieved her
so much. All the biographers agree to the point that after the Holy Prophet passed away no one saw
daughter of Mohammad Fatima-tuz-Zahra smiling. She could not live long because she felt grieved.
Fatima-tuz-Zahra death date
Mohammad’s (pbuh) daughter died on 3 rd Ramadan 11 Hijri at the age of 29.
